2023
12th January: From Kenchester Water Gardens. Leader Gareth.
Meet at Kenchester Water Gardens opposite Lyde Church HR1 3AB. Follow A49 north from Hereford, over the Starting Gate (Beefeater) roundabout for one mile. Gardens on right hand side. A flat 4 mile walk across fields and roads. 4 stiles. Good views over 5 counties (weather permitting !!!). Subsequently modified because of conditions underfoot. Walk now mainly on roads with just two stiles.
26th January: City area. Leader Mike.
Meet at the Rose & Crown, Ledbury Road, Hereford. Flat walk within the city boundary along the River Wye and return through Rotherwas industrial estate. A 5 mile walk with no stiles.
9th February: Ledbury Town. Leaders Helen and Rob.
Meet at the Full Pitcher Inn, Ledbury. Take A438 Ledbury, after joining the by pass the Full Pitcher is 2nd left off roundabout. Moderate walk around Ledbury town along grassland tracks and pavement. Meals available. 3½ miles. No stiles.
23rd February: Haugh Woods. Leader Judith.
Approx 4 miles walk, some inclines, no stiles. Option for shorter walk if not lunching. Preorder lunch at Moon Inn Mordiford (HR1 4LW) and if possible share cars to woods. There could be a delay in ordering at 10 am as another group doing same, suggest arriving earlier or later.
9th March: Much Marcle. Leaders Margaret and Eddie. Meet at the Walwyn Arms HR8 2LY for a 3.5 mile mainly flat walk with 4 stiles. The walk takes us past Hellens House, a thousand year old yew tree and through a cider apple orchard. Parking and food available at the pub. Changed to Weston’s Cider Mill HR8 2NQ. Walk cancelled because of weather.
23rd March: From The Bay Horse. Leaders Jackie and Eric.
Meet at The Bay Horse HR4 0SD. Roughly 4 mile easy walk through woods, lanes and fields. No stiles but might be muddy. Food available to pre order.
6th April: Annual Lunch at Burghill Valley Golf Club. 12.30 for 13.00.
20th April: From the Mill Race at Walford. Leader Stan.
Meet at the Mill Race, Walford HR9 5QS for a 4 - 4.5 mile walk through the woods, hopefully lots of spring flowers. 1 stile. Just 1 road to cross. Back to the Mill Race for lunch.
4th May: Fownhope. Leaders Margery and Rosemary.
Meet at the New Inn at Fownhope HR1 4PE. A fairly easy walk with some inclines, about 3½ miles with 4 stiles. Good views over the village and towards Capler Woods. Meals available at the pub.
18th May: Kilpeck. Leaders Rob & Helen.
Meet at the Kilpeck Inn HR2 9DN. From Hereford take A465 (Abergavenny Rd), after 5.5 miles turn left at Kilpeck sign and proceed another 1.25 miles to Kilpeck village. A slightly harder walk than normal rewarded with great scenic views of surrounding area, over pastureland, farm tracks and country lanes - some inclines, seven stiles and one bridge-stile. 4 miles. (2 stops). Meals available - pre-order Menu will be advised nearer date.
1st June: From the Starting Gate. Leaders Jackie and Marcia.
Meet at The Starting Gate (Beefeater) Hereford HR4 9RS for a walk through the racecourse, through the park and across the common. An easy, flat walk with no stiles roughly 4.5 miles. Pre order lunch if required.
15th June: The Mynde, Wormelow. Leaders Malcolm and Janet.
Meet at The Tump Inn Wormelow HR2 8EJ. Take the A466 Monmouth Road off the A49 Hereford to Ross road at Callow for Wormelow. A mainly level 4 mile walk along fields and woodland paths. Food available at Tump Inn.
Changed to: A 4 mile walk, mainly level fields and woodland paths. Meet at Black Swan, Much Dewchurch HR2 8DJ. Take the A466 Monmouth Road off the A49 Hereford to Ross road at Callow for Wormelow. At Wormelow take B4348 to Much Dewchurch. After 1 mile pub on the right. Food will need to be pre-ordered a few days before, menu to follow.
29th June: Ross on Wye. Leaders Margaret and Eddie.
Meet at the White Lion Inn, Wilton HR9 6AQ for an easy 3.5 mile riverside and town walk, following the footsteps of John Kyrle, the famous Man of Ross. No stiles but two short flights of steps. Parking and food available at the pub.
Changed as follows: Parking at the White Lion is very limited so suggest that we all use the large Wilton Road car park HR9 5JA which is just 200 yards passed the pub, see attached map, a charge of £1 for all day. Margaret will be at the car park to meet you. Eddie will be on the riverside terrace of the White Lion where we will start the walk from. The pub does not open until noon, however, facilities will be made available for us.
The White Lion would like our menu choices beforehand, so could you please forward your choice to us by Monday 26th June, menu is attached.
13th July: Almeley. Leader Gareth.
Meet at the Bells Inn at Almeley HR3 6LF. Take the A438 Brecon Road up Kings Acre Road passing Oakchurch Farm Shop. At Letton turn right signposted Kinnersley and at T junction on main road turn left on a winding road into the village. Pub is at the top of the village on the right. A 4 mile flat walk with 3 stiles, passing Nieuport House. Some road walking.
Directions changed: From Hereford take the A438 (Kings Acre Road) and then the A4111 to Eardisley. At Eardisley turn right opposite the Tram Inn and just before the Strand Cafe. After 1.5 miles turn right and then left by the church. The Bells is then on the right.
27th July: Symonds Yat. Leaders Rob & Helen.
Meet at the New Weir car park Symonds Yat (East). From Hereford take A49 (South) then A4137 to junction of A40, left over dual carriageway and left signposted Symonds Yat (East). After 1/2 mile turn right go over narrow bridge and after further 1/2 mile turn right down narrow lane to Symonds Yat - car park at end of roadway.
A flat picturesque walk along the banks of the River Wye with linear section through woods, includes suspension bridge and ferry crossings. No stiles 4 miles.
Lunch at the Royal Lodge Hotel Pre-order menu available nearer walk date.

A 4 mile walk round lanes and fields of Lugwardine, returning via Bartestree. 2 stiles. Parking and lunch available at Crown and Anchor pub HR1 4AB.
7th September: From Stockton Bury Gardens. Leader Gareth.
Meet at Stockton Bury Gardens, Kimbolton HR6 0HB. A49 to Leominster, continuing right at roundabout at far end of Leominster bypass. After 3/4 mile turn right signposted Kimbolton. A 4 mile walk up the Stockton Ride, then fields and orchards with some road walking. 4 stiles.
21st September: Hoarwithy. Leader Annie.Meet at New Harp, Hoarwithy, HR2 6QH. An easy walk with one incline. Some lane and road walking including crossing footbridge over River Wye with visit to Sellack Church. Approximately 4 miles with only one stile. Food available at the pub. Cancelled – concern re flood warnings.
5th October: Eastnor. Leader John.
Meet at the Woodshed car park (free parking) in Eastnor (HR8 1RA). Walk approximately 3 miles with gentle climbs. There are no stiles. The path up to the Eastnor obelisk is steep, but walkers are welcome to omit this and follow the circular path back to Woodshed (hot drinks and snacks available). Lunch at the Full Pitcher on Ledbury Bypass (HR82EN). We will need to pre-order by October 1st 2023 – menu to follow.
19th October: From the Three Elms. Leaders Jackie and Eric.
Starting at the Three Elms pub at the top end of Three Elms Road (HR4 9QQ) an easy 4.5 mile walk with no stiles. Fields and a bit of wood. Food available at pub to pre order – their new menu will be sent out later.
2nd November: From Burghill Valley Golf Club. Leader Gareth.
Meet at the Burghill Valley Golf Club (HR4 7RW) for a 4 mile undulating walk through fields and orchards and a visit to Burghill church. No stiles. Food available at the golf club. As this is our group’s walk number 900 there will be ‘birthday’ cake included at the golf club. CANCELLED due to adverse weather forecast – but still met for lunch.

Meet at the Swan Inn, Aylestone Hill HR1 1JJ, for a mainly flat urban walk over pavements, lanes, minor roads and farmland. Some stiles. Meals available – order on the day.
14th December: Much Dewchurch & Dewsall. Leaders Malcolm and Janet.
5 miles, fields and roads – undulating, 2 stiles. Meet at Black Swan, Much Dewchurch HR2 8DJ. A49 Hereford to Ross, at Callow turn for Wormelow, at Wormelow take A4348 to Much Dewchurch – 1 mile, pub on the right. Food will need to be preordered a few days before, menu to follow.

A 4 mile urban walk from Wye Inn, Holme Lacy Rd to Belmont Pools. Flat easy walking, no stiles, returning same route. Food available at Wye Inn.
8th February: Queenswood. Leaders Rob and Helen.
Meet at Queenswood Arboretum on Dinmore Hill (HR6 0PY) - please note that there are parking charges. An easy amble through woods featuring Japanese Garden and fine views towards Hereford and the Malverns. Food available at Dinmore Cafe. No stiles, 3 miles. CANCELLED - very wet underfoot and heavy rain forecast.
22nd February: From The Bay Horse. Leaders Mike H & Sue.
Starting at the Bay Horse in Kings Acre Road HR4 0SD for a 4.5 mile walk following a route through the cattle market and onto the Roman road then over the fields via the Priory and Stretton Nursing home. Two major roads to cross but with excellent visibility. The route is flat with one slight incline and no stiles! Alternative return route if the one field we cross is too wet. Food is available at the Bay Horse with details to follow nearer the time. CANCELLED - very wet underfoot and heavy rain forecast.

Parking at the Wye Inn on Holme Lacy road HR2 6EH, approximately 5 mile walk, through Rotherwas industrial estate returning back via the river, over Victoria bridge and back to the Wye Inn. Meals available at the pub. No stiles.
16th May: Fownhope. Leader Annie.
Meet at New Inn, Fownhope, HR1 4PE. An easy/moderate walk with short steep incline near start and long gradual incline along a lane, then following the Wye Valley Walk through woodland and nature reserve. Approximately 3.5-4 miles with 4 stiles. Food available at pub.
30th May: Bromyard Downs. Leaders Rob and Helen.
Meet at the Downs car park. From Hereford A465 to Bromyard, proceed down by-pass and turn left ( B 4203 Stourport) after 1.25 miles turn sharp right - parking 400 yards on left. Sharp incline at start then mainly flat walk over the Downs, fields, and farm tracks - excellent views. 4 miles, no stiles. Food available at The Three Horseshoes, Little Cowarne. Details to follow nearer date. On return journey on A465 go through Stoke Lacy and at top of steep pitch turn right - Pub 2 miles on left.
13th June: Hanley Swan. Leaders Judy and Roger.
Meet and park at The Swan Inn, Worcester Road, Hanley Swan (WR8 0EA). About 4.5 miles - fields, lanes and quiet roads. Lovely views of the Malvern Hills, without having to climb any of them. One incline, 4 stiles. The Swan’s menu (it calls itself a gastropub) is a bit pricier than normal but it’s good and there’s an option of “lighter lunches” round the £15 mark, which are not light at all. Changed as follows as the Swan Inn at Hanley Swan was going to be closed for renovations: still park there, because our walk starts and ends at the pub but after the walk drive to the Bluebell Inn, Barnards Green, Malvern, WR14 3QP for lunch. We don’t have to pre-order.
27th June: Much Birch. Leaders Malcolm and Janet.
Meet at the Axe & Cleaver, Much Birch (HR2 8HU) - 5 miles south of Hereford on the A49. A 4 miles country walk, fields, lanes, some stiles. Food available, order on the day. Food available at the gardens.
11th July: Stocktonbury Gardens. Leader Gareth.
Meet at Stocktonbury Gardens, Kimbolton HR6 0HB. A 4 mile easy walk through fields & woods followed by some road walking. 6 stiles. If very hot we will shorten the walk. Break taken at Penny’s Flowers.

Meet at Bunch of Carrots HR1 4JR, a flat walk of 4 miles with no stiles. The walk takes us along the bank of the river Wye towards Hereford, passing the famous “Amblers Gates”. To include a short walk around Hampton Park before returning the same route. Parking and food available at the pub.
22nd August: Goodrich. Leader Stan.
Meet and park at the Cross Keys Inn at Goodrich (HR9 6JB). 5 miles walk. Steady incline for the first hour, then it is down hill through the woods to the River Wye, then over fields back to the pub. Very nice walk, good views, one stile. Lunch available at the pub, we have to pre book lunch - more on this later.
5th September: Weobley. Leader Annie.
An easy 3.5-4 mile walk along lanes and field tracks taking in the Garnstone Estate and Castle Green with no stiles. Meet at the Salutation Inn (HR4 8SJ) to order and, at the pub’s request, pay for lunch. (If the Salutation Inn car park is full, please park in the village centre or the car park off B4230, HR4 8SE, SO401517.)
19th September: Finally a walk in the woods!. Leaders Jackie & Eric.
An easy 4 mile flat walk from Blue Diamond garden centre HR4 0SE meandering through woods and orchards with a few lanes thrown in.
No stiles. Food available at the garden centre.
3rd October: Queenswood. Leaders Rob and Helen.
Meet at Queenswood Arboretum on Dinmore Hill (HR6 0PY) - please note that there are parking charges. An easy amble through woods featuring Japanese Garden and fine views towards Hereford and the Malverns. No stiles, 3 miles. Lunch at the cafe - order on the day of the walk and pay when ordering. As we are, hopefully, a big group they say they will do us a deal on the parking - hopefully free.
17th October: Hanley Swan. Leaders Roger and Judy.
Meet at the St Gabriel’s Church car park, Hanley Swan, diagonally opposite the Duck Pond on the B4209 at 10am. About 4.5 miles - fields, lanes and quiet roads. Lovely views of the Malvern Hills, without having to climb any of them. One incline, 5 stiles. After the walk we go to the Bluebell Inn, Malvern WR14 3QP (only about a mile away and plenty of parking) for lunch. We can order our meals when we get there. 31st October: Eastnor. Leader John.

14th November: From Brobury Gardens. Leaders Sheila and Colin.
An interesting and scenic walk of under 3.5 miles from Brobury House and Gardens HR3 6BS. Good parking opposite the entrance to Brobury House or in the Gardens car park. All paths are easy walking. There are 2 short road sections and 6 stiles. There will be an opportunity to visit St. Andrews church near the end of the walk. Food available at the Brobury Gardens cafe - menu and ordering details to be advised nearer the time.
28th November: Exploring Bartestree and Lugwardine. Leader Judith.
Meet at The Godwins Bartestree HR1 4BX. Approx 3.5 miles, maybe a stile. Fields and lane walking. Lunch available, order on the day (we need to commit to 10+ people a week in advance as the pub is opening specially).
12th December: Mordiford. Leader Gareth.
Meet at the Moon Inn, Mordiford HR1 4LW. Park in overflow car park on right at top of car park. NO STILES!!! 4 mile easy fairly flat walk over Hampton Water Meadows, 1000 years old, never ploughed. 20 minutes on road with no pavement, single file. Good views of electricity pylons and Hay Bluff, passing Dovecote. May be muddy by December. Possibly followed by a brief history of Tom Spring, the prize fighter.

9th January: Brobury House walk. Leader Gareth.
Take road to Brecon A438 up Kings Acre Road passing Oakchurch on your right. One mile further on turn left up hill signposted Brobury Gardens (HR3 6BS) which are on your left immediately before Bredwardine bridge. Flat 4 mile walk through The Scar and down Monnington Ride, possibly to the church. Some road walking.
23rd January: Aylestone Park/Churchill Gardens/College Green.

Meet at Swan Inn, Aylestone Hill, Hereford - order meals on the day. A suitable winter walk over pavements, parkland and lanes. 4 miles, no stiles.
6th February: Around Carey. Leaders Sheila and Malcolm.
Circular walk of approximately 4 miles, starting and ended at The New Harp Inn, Hoarwithy... passing through Carey. Fairly flat, easy walking along the banks of the river Wye. A set of steps down off the bridge at the beginning of walk with a couple of stiles. Short amount of road walking before returning to river bank. Interesting remains of Ballingham bridge on route. Food will be available at the New Harp Inn with good parking. Orders taken on the morning. Please note that this area is prone to flooding so if heavy rainfall in February we may have to cancel.

20th March: Ewyas Harold. Leader Annie.
Meet at the Recreation Ground/Village Car Park (bear left after bridge in village, soon turn right into School Road signposted Recreation Ground, then left at junction and left again, both signposted Village Car Park). This is a varied 4 mile walk taking in Ewyas Harold Common, a deer farm and Dore Abbey. There is some road walking and 2 sets of wooden steps on either side of the field with deer. Details of lunch to follow nearer the time.

Meet at Marden Shop (post code HR1 3EW) Take A49 north, at Wellington turn right - or from Aylestone roundabout take minor road to Sutton St. Nicholas, at Cross Keys Inn turn left for Marden. Please note: car share where possible - park on roadside adjacent to shop. A 4.5 mile walk with one moderate gradient, several good stiles, some road walking. Good views over ancient pastureland, visiting Marden Church with interesting walk alongside River Lugg. Meals available at Farmer John’s cafe (within shop) - order meals on the day.
1st May: The Malverns. Leaders Roger and Judy.
A walk around North Hill on the Malverns which is free of stiles, mostly on paths or track and only a couple of short, steep inclines, with time to rest and admire the spectacular views in every direction. About 4.5 miles. Meet and park in Harcourt Road, Malvern. There is very limited parking so please car share where possible. From Ledbury, take the A449 towards Malvern. In about 4 miles at British Camp, where you will see the Malvern Hills Hotel opposite and a car park on your right, turn left onto the B4232 towards West Malvern. In 2.5 miles or so, you will come to Wyche Cutting crossroads, where you continue along the B4232 for 1.5 miles to Harcourt Road, a very sharp left turn. Roger and Judy will be there to advise re parking. The walk will start from the top of Harcourt Road at 10.30. Lunch at the Trumpet Inn (on the Hereford-Ledbury Road) HR8 2RA. Please could anyone who is staying for lunch let Judy know their menu choice by April 25th, by email or phone/text. (Email address is judeartist@icloud.com).
